The Hellenic Grand Priory of the Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem and the Charitable Association "O Aghios Lazaros”, have implemented the following charitable actions over the Christmas period:
The first action was to enrich the variety of books in the lending library of the Greek National School of Vienna with books of Greek literature for children. 160 books were collected and sent for the use of the School. The Greek National School of Vienna (Griechische Nationalschule) began its operation in the year 1804, following a decree granted by Emperor Franz II. The structure of the program and in general the organizational model adopted by the school after 1920 was established in 1955 by the Bishop of Thermes and later the first Metropolitan of Austria. The school operates under the educational program of the Greek Ministry of Education, has 380 students and includes kindergarten, elementary, middle school and high school classes. It operates in the church building and is a clear witness to the presence of the Greeks in Central Europe. A letter from His Eminence the Metropolitan Arsenios of Austria and Exarch of Hungary and Central Europe was sent to our Grand Prior thanking the Hellenic Grand Priory for this initiative.
The Hellenic Grand Priory also supported the Women's Shelter of Palaio Faliro - Agios Alexandros Foundation, which hosts girls aged from 6 to 18 years old, from families with socio-economic problems and being there under legal order of protection. We have undertaken to cover the administrative expenses of the Foundation for the month of January 2024,and also supported their Christmas Bazaar which took place from December 15 to 17, 2023.
